The fork lift truck has the lifting forks (7a) attached to a lifting frame (5) for movement in a vertical direction and in a horizontal direction (11), transverse to the longitudinal movement direction (10) of the fork lift truck along an aisle between parallel shelving rows (1,2). A control device provides a semi-automatic operating mode in which the fork lift truck is manually positioned in the longitudinal movement direction and the lifting forks are vertically positioned by the operator, with subsequent manual or automatic movement of the lifting forks in the transverse horizontal direction.
