PURPOSE: A television capable of selectively controlling volume, a home theater system and a method for controlling volume of the home theater system are provided to simply control video and volume of the television and a Dolby amplifier with a TV remote controller. CONSTITUTION: A receiving part(100) receives a control code from a remote controller. A sensing part(110) senses input of video and voice signals from the outside. If the sensing part senses only the input of the video signal, a control part(120) outputs a first control signal not to execute a volume control function in the case of receiving a volume control code from the remote controller. The control part outputs a second control signal to display a message to a screen when outputting the first control signal, which represents that sound is controlled at a Dolby amplifier. In the case that a television and the Dolby amplifier use the same volume control code, any one of the television and the Dolby amplifier controls volume by the first control signal if receiving the volume control code from the remote controller.
