VARIABLE LIGHT ATTENUATOR FOR ATTENUATING INTENSITY OF INPUT LIGHT

PURPOSE: A variable light attenuator for attenuating intensity of input light is provided to adjust linearly the intensity of the input light by varying the driving current. CONSTITUTION: A variable optical attenuator includes an incoming fiber(10) for transferring incoming light beam, a mirror(40) for reflecting the incoming light beam, an outgoing fiber(20) for propagating more parts of the reflected light beam, and an actuator(60) for rotating the mirror in order to vary the light intensity of the outgoing light beam. The actuator includes a plate(61) mounted on the mirror, a coil(64) which is arranged on the plate, a housing(63) for supporting the plate to be rotated around a rotation axis, and a permanent magnet fixed on the housing for generating predetermined magnetic flux density along the predetermined plane.
