PURPOSE: A torque converter is provided to transmit torque efficiently by increasing the capacity coefficient of the torque converter at high speed ratio and by restricting turbulence in flowing fluid from the stator to the impeller. CONSTITUTION: A torque converter(1) for transmitting torque by using fluid is composed of a rotating shaft, a fluid chamber(2) having an impeller(11) with an impeller blade(22), a turbine(12) composed of a turbine blade(32), axially arranged in the fluid chamber and placed opposite to the impeller, and a stator(13) composed of a stator blade(42) and arranged between the turbine and the impeller. The impeller has a first radius(R1) between the end of the inner periphery of the impeller blade and the rotating shaft, and the stator has a second radius(R2) between the end of the inner periphery of the stator blade and the rotating shaft. The first radius is smaller than the second radius. The rate of the first radius to the second radius is over 0.75.
