FUNCTIONAL COSMETIC COMPOSITION CONTAINING CHITOSAN AND GRAPEFRUIT EXTRACT HAVING ANTISEPTIC AND ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITY

PURPOSE: A functional cosmetic composition containing chitosan and a grapefruit extract having antiseptic and antimicrobial activity is provided. The composition displays a broad spectrum of anti-microbial activity and has excellent natural antiseptic properties as compared to conventional synthetic antiseptic. Therefore, the composition can be used in various functional cosmetics including creams, skins, lotions, shampoos, rinse or the like. CONSTITUTION: The functional cosmetic composition contains 0.05 to 5% by weight of chitosan having a molecular weight of 100,000 to 1,000,000, 0.5 to 40% by weight of a grapefruit extract and 65 to 99% by weight of purified water. The cosmetic composition additionally contains an herbal extract selected from grape seeds, mustard seeds, Chamaecyparis obtusa and Magnolia kobus. In the functional cosmetic composition, the mixing ratio of chitosan and the grapefruit extract is 1:1 to 10.
