PURPOSE: A method and a flat display device are provided to reduce the thickness of the display device by making a substrate flexible and thin. CONSTITUTION: A method comprises a first step of preparing an upper substrate(11) and a lower substrate(12) which are made of a material allowing for etching; a second step of arranging image display units spaced apart from each other on the upper or lower substrate; a third step of sealing the upper and lower substrates such that the edges and pixel areas opposed with each other are defined on the upper and lower substrates; a fourth step of etching the sealed upper and lower substrates into predetermined thicknesses; and a fifth step of cutting the etched upper and lower substrates into the image display units which are defined by seal members.
