PURPOSE: Provided is a composition comprising the extract of Portulaca oleracea L. The composition has free radical scavenging effect and anti-oxidant activity and is thus used for foods as an antioxidant, remedies for inhibition of aging or health foods for prevention and treatment of stress related diseases. CONSTITUTION: The composition is characterized by comprising the crude extract, nonpolar solvent-soluble extract or polar solvent-soluble extract of Portulaca oleracea L. The composition is useful for the prevention and treatment of oxidative stress related diseases, such as cancers, arteriosclerosis, arthritis, cardiovascular diseases and Parkinson's disease.
