PURPOSE: A defect management method of an information storage medium, an information storage medium drive device and an information storage medium thereof are provided to record the first state information showing that an update cycle of TDMS(Temporary Defect Management Structure) information is open, and to record the second state information showing that the update cycle is closed when the TDMS information is fully updated. CONSTITUTION: After an information storage medium is loaded(S310), an update cycle of predetermined information related to a data recording or reproducing process is open(S320). A controller controls a recording/reading unit to record open state information of the update cycle(S330). The controller records data on the information storage medium or reproduces the recorded data(S340). The controller generates the predetermined information to be updated(S350), and decides whether the update cycle is completed(S360). If so, the controller records the predetermined information on the information storage medium, and re-writes close state information of the update cycle(S370).
