PURPOSE: A home network system transmitting electronic mails and a method for transmitting electronic mails in a home network are provided to confirm the receipt of an electronic mail without operating a personal computer. CONSTITUTION: A home network system is formed of a computer(150) and a digital television(100). The computer transmits an electronic mail received through an external network through a home network. The digital television displays the electronic mail transmitted from the computer through the home network. The digital television includes a first electronic mail agent(111) and a mail viewer(112). The first electronic mail agent judges whether it is possible to process the electronic mail. If it is impossible to process the electronic mail, the first electronic mail agent reports the fact to the computer. The computer includes a second electronic mail agent(152) and a format converter(155). The second electronic mail agent transmits the received electronic mail to the digital television and the retransmits the electronic mail in a format processible by the digital television. The format converter converts the electronic mail into the format processible by the digital television.
