The invention relates to a method for the production of a polyurethane - composition with a low content of diisocyanate monomers, in which, in a first step at least one isocyanate-reactive polymer with at least one monomeric diisocyanate is reacted, and then in a second process step, the or the reaction products obtained in the first step with at least one isocyanate-terminated prepolymer, which is essentially free of diisocyanate monomers, are mixed in such a way that the resulting total composition is less than 0,1 w -% monomeric diisocyanate, as well as with the use of the thus prepared polyurethane - composition in a bonding process or for coating purposes.
