Device for determining the moisture content of a subsoil, whereby the subsoil serves as the dielectric for a capacitive measurement arrangement (7a, 7b). Evaluation electronics (6) are used to determine the dielectric constant of the subsoil, with the electronics having a memory (8) for storage of calibration data, which are used to convert the determined dielectric constant into a moisture value. When a cement containing subsoil is examined calibration data for a calcium sulfate containing subsoil are used.
