The repair procedure involves first cutting out the damaged section of cable. The end regions (5,6) of the wires in the damaged cable and a replacement length of flat cable (7) are bared (16) by cutting away the insulation (8). The replacement length of flat cable has thick conductors (14). It is laid overlapping the end of the cut cable so that the bared regions are in electrical contact. The contact regions are sealed together with e.g. solder paste (12). Insulating material (11) is applied to the cut ends of the wires (4) in the original conductor.
