The piston pump (1) for fuel has a tappet for a pump piston and a drive component to generate the lifting movement of the tappet. The drive component (3) is constructed as a cam with a first (3.1) and a second (3.2) cam track. The cam tracks differ in the height of their amplitudes with regard to the cam axis (3.5) and/or in the number of amplitudes. The cams may be constructed in one or several sections and with a common cam axis, whereby with regard to the cam axis the first cam track is located axially next to the second cam track.
