Device for measuring the wall thickness (D) of a pipe (1) in a rolling mill comprises a laser ultrasound measuring unit having a measuring head (2) containing an exciting laser (3), an illuminating laser (4), a collecting lens (5) for collecting light scattered from the pipe surface into the head and a waveguide (6). The waveguide is connected to an interferometer and a fiber coupler (7) is arranged between the collecting lens and the waveguide. Moving units (8, 9, 10) for moving the coupler in the head in spatial directions (x, y, z) is also included.
