An extrusion press for producing curved or bent products has the temperature and/or the extrusion rate measured at the output of the extrusion tool (12) with the measured values used to control the extrusion process as well as the subsequent bending process (14). The sensor (15) is mounted outside a radial bore (17) through the press housing and views the extrusion (13) as it leaves the press tool. The radial bore does not reduce the strength of the housing and the remote mounting protects the sensor from heat and pressure.
