The system has a state-generating splitter (2) for providing results (3) of measurements of respective events that are subject to a quantum-mechanical regime. Each result corresponds to one state, or 'world', and is transferred to a result register (4). A program runs in a processor (6) and performs calculations on the result, and compares the calculation result with a criterion (7). A reducer (8) causes a state-reducing shift. During operation of the data processing system mass-shifts occur for which the states are indifferent.
