Container (1), especially a plastic container, preferably in the form of a bin, comprises a lid (2) for closing the container and having a receiving region (4) in which the edge (3) of the container defining the container opening engages in the closed state. Catch elements (10-14) and sealing surfaces (16, 17) are provided on the receiving region of the lid and on the edge of the container opening. The catch elements are designed so that when the container is closed the sealing surfaces are reliably pressed against each other to form a seal and can be released only on destruction of the lid and/or the edge.
