The circuit has a pulse generator (30) for generating voltage pulses, a charge/discharge circuit (11/12) connected to the pulse generator containing at least one fuel cell (51) and capacitance (13) and a switch arrangement (20) for switching the charge/discharge circuit in relation to the capacitance in a charging circuit (11) while the voltage is being applied and in a discharge circuit (12) after applying the voltage. Independent claims are also included for the following: fuel cell system and the use of a fuel cell system, especially in a motor vehicle.
