Cylinder liner comprises a wear protection coating based on Fe alloy with carbon and oxygen or is based on Ti arranged on a partial region of the liner base body. The protective coating has martensitic phases, forms oxides and is applied using high speed flame spraying. An adhesion promoting layer is arranged between the base body and the wear protection coating.
