The thermally sprayed cylinder liner made of an iron based alloy with a carbon content of 0.8-0.9 wt.%, friction-reducing fillers (F) of graphite, molybdenum disulfide or tungsten disulfide, dispersed in the iron based alloy, steel, stainless steel and/or light metal based on aluminum, titanium and/or magnesium is claimed. The cylinder liner has 2-60 wt.% of fillers and has a gradient of iron content. The iron content of a base of an injected layer decreases to a surface. An independent claim is included for a method for the production of thermally sprayed cylinder liner.
