Method for detecting the road lanes for a vehicle in which sensors are used to detect the environment of the vehicle and sensor signals evaluated, whereby if a lane is left warnings are generated or a direction correction is carried out. In determining whether a warning should be given or a correction made, vehicle position data are evaluated in conjunction with map data. The invention also relates to a corresponding arrangement for implementation of the inventive method.
