Vehicle Detection and Tracking in Non-Orthogonal, Multi-Directional Lanes from aWide-Angle Sensor

This report describes a wide angle optical sensor, and its associated signalprocessing, that have been developed for intersection surveillance. The 160 degree, distortion free, high resolution, all weather optical system provides omni-directional vehicle detection and tracking from a standard high resolution black and white video camera amounted above the intersection. A single sensor can thus track vehicles in all the approach and departure lanes of a complex intersection, this simplifies, both installation and data processing.
