The method involves determining the vehicle position on a digital road map (DK) of a navigation system (N). The local vehicle environment is determined as the environment sensor data by a vehicle-sensor device (S1). A local environmental map (LK) is generated from the environment sensor data. The movement (EB) of the vehicle is detected by another vehicle-sensor device (S2). An independent claim is also included for a driver assistance system for executing the method.
