A process for the production of disiloxanes with formation of gaseous hydrogen chloride comprises reaction of chlorosilanes with up to 0.5 moles of water per mole of silicon-chlorine bonds in the chlorosilane. A process for the production of disiloxanes (I) of formula (1) with formation of gaseous hydrogen chloride (HCl) comprises reaction of chlorosilanes of formula (2) with up to 0.5 moles of water per mole of silicon-chlorine (Si-Cl) bonds in the chlorosilane. R3SiOSiR3 (1) R3SiCl (2) R = H or optionally substituted hydrocarbon.
