To establish the integrity of a remote operating key using radio (2) or infrared (3) signals, a test button (5) is depressed initially to determine freedom from random signals, before the test key is operated. LED lamps (6) illuminate on satisfactory reception of a signal. LED illumination is also used to provide a torch or flashlight function.
