The fuse unit (3) includes two or more segments (5) which can be pivoted outwards to effect a braking action. The unit includes a global positioning system (GPS) antenna (10) and receiver (11), with the braking segments being pivoted according to preprogrammed instructions to brake the projectile at a calculated point relative to the target. The segments may be joined by flexible membranes to increase the drag.
