The safety system comprises a balance (26) provided with several measurement points (30,31) located inside the automobile (2) so that the weight of the assembly constituted by the seat (4) and its passenger is distributed over these points. A computer (40) acquires the signal delivered by the balance representative of each of the measurement points and determines a bench mark of the acceleration of the passenger. The computer then controls the release of at least one of the safety devices (14,16) according to the determined value of the representative quantity of the passenger's acceleration. Independent claims are included for a release method and a computer.
