Authentication method, especially for chip card use, in which the primary authentication is decomposed into two sub-authentication or secondary authentication steps. Each secondary authentication step involves transmission of a number generated by a pseudo random number generator. As both of the numbers exchanged are non-correlated method security is high. The random number generator is a memory containing random numbers and a function that generates numbers from said memory.
