PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a drainage mat having excellent workability and reducing weight load to a structure and a vegetation base and to provide a method for vegetation base application. PSOLUTION: The drainage mat is formed by arranging a plurality of drainage drains 3 in parallel on the surface of a protective sheet 2 and laying a root proof and water-permeable sheet 4 so as to uniformly cover the surface of the protective sheet 2 and the outer peripheral surfaces of the drainage drains 3. The vegetation base 7 using the drainage mat is completed by arranging the drainage mat on a fixed position of an artificial ground 5, raising the outer peripheral edges of the drainage mat to make a drainage pit 8 and only piling soil 6 inside the drainage pit 8.
