PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a simple inspection method for inspecting the appearance failure of a heat-sealable packaging material at a low cost by the inspection of an image, and also realize an inspection device therefor to widely adapt them not only to a shading/hermetically closable heat-sealable packaging material but also a light transmitting/air permeable heat-sealable packaging material.;SOLUTION: The extraction processing of the linarized image of a retort pouch 2 to be inspected is performed (S1), a part surrounded by a contour is specified as an inferior region (S2), the area of an inferior region is measured to determine the sum total area S(S3), it is determined whether the area S exceeds a reference area S_o and a corresponding inferior discharge order signal is formed if the sum total area S is determined to be affirmed to be output to a discharge device 10 (S5) to discharge a defective product.
