PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new compound useful as a nitrogen monoxide production suppressing active agent used to prevent and treat septic disease, arterial hypotension, inflammatory tissue disorder, etc. ;SOLUTION: This compound is expressed by formula I [when R¹ is OH and R³ is H, R² is -(CH=CH)₃-COCH₂CH₃, -CH=CH₂ or -(CH=CH)-CH(OH)-CH (OH)-CH₂-(CH=CH)-CH₂CH₃, and when R¹ and R³ are combined together to form =O, R² is -(CH=CH)₃-CH(OH)CH₂CH₃], preferably a compound of formula II or the like. The compound of formula I is obtained by extracting Corchorus olitolius L. in a lower fatty alcohol such as methanol in preferably repeating several times under heating, preferably subjecting the resultant extract to a partition treatment in ethyl acetate-water at a usual temperature with concentrating or without concentrating the extract solution and isolating from the ethyl acetate layer by using a normal phase silica gel chromatography, etc.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
