PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic document conveying device having separation structure maintaining high separation performance of a document sheet and excellent in mounting or exchange workability of a separation pad. SOLUTION: Separation structure for a document sheet in an automatic document conveying device comprises a paper feed tray on which document sheets are loaded; a conveyance guiding plate to support and guide the document sheets delivered from the paper feed tray; and a separation member fronting on the opening part of the conveyance guiding plate to separate the document sheets one by one in coordination with a paper feed roller. The separation member consists of a pre-separation member with which the forward end of the document sheet guided along the conveyance plate is brought into contact; a separation pad to form the nip part of the document sheet in coordination with the paper feed roller; and a pad holder to support the separation pad. The pre-separation member is supported integrally with the pad holder. Further, the separation pad is mounted on the pad holder through an elastic member.
