An elongated excavation tooth assembly (12,14,16)includes a replaceable tooth point (12)and an adapter structure comprising (1) an intermediate adapter (14)having a front end nose (48)complementarily received in a rear end pocket (72)of the point and captively retained therein by a first connector pin structure (18), and (2) a main adapter (16)having a front end nose (98)complementary received in a rear end pocket (34)of the intermediate adapter (14)and captively retained therein by a second connector pin structure(20) and a rear end operatively securable to an excavating bucket lip (24). Special configurations of the point (12)and adapter portions (14,16)of the assembly, including horizontally elongated oval configurations of the noses (48,98), horizontal orientation of the connector pins (18,20), nose stabilization protrusions (34,114) at the nose retainer openings (66,84,116,46), and complementarily scalloped adapter and point interface areas, provide the assembly with reduced size and improved strength, wear and operational characteristics.
