Stent graft for placement in a dilated section of blood vessel comprises a casing that has inlet and outlet openings and can be expanded to abut the inner wall of the blood vessel after placement. Independent claims are also included for: (1) device for placement of a stent graft as above, comprising a balloon attached to a catheter, where the balloon is capable of supporting the stent graft in an unexpanded state and is capable of expanding to the size of the dilated section so that the casing abuts the blood vessel; (2) introducing a catheter-borne stent graft as above into a dilated section of blood vessel, where the stent graft is in a compressed state, by opening the blood vessel, inserting the catheter into the blood vessel, using the catheter to transport the stent graft to the dilated section, and expanding the stent graft so that casing abouts the inner wall of the blood vessel.
