METALLIZABLE WHITE OPAQUE FILM, METALLIZED FILMS MADE THEREFROM AND LABELS MADE FROM METALLIZED FILMS

A multilayer, metallizable, white opaque film suitable for use in formingmetallized plastic labels for bottles andother containers includes at least an internal core layer and opposed outerskin layers. One of the outer skin layers is a non-voidedlayer having a surface treated to receive a metal layer thereon and theopposed outer skin layer includes an amount of a void creatingadditive to provide sufficient porosity for the absorption of an aqueous coldglue adhesive of the type employed to adhere a label toa container. Preferably the core layer is free of void creating additives andthe opposed outer skin layer for receiving the cold glueadhesive is oxidatively treated, e.g., corona treated, to improve receptivityfor the cold glue adhesive.
