It is intended to provide an inactive Ca2+/calmodulin-dependent protein kinaseII.alpha. (CaMKII.alpha.) knockin animal in which the protein kinase activityof CaMKII.alpha. alone is specifically injured. Since it appears thatCaMKII.alpha. relates to higher brain functions such as learning and memoryand inhibits brain disorders caused by epileptic seizure or ischemia, theinactive CaMKII.alpha. knockin animal as described above is widely usable incranial nerve studies on, for example, clarification of the mechanisms oflearning/memory disorders, epileptic seizure and brain disorders.
