The sorting device (1) has a measuring path (3) provided with an angled rolling plane (4) along which the curved elongate items are rolled, with a switching unit (5) at the end of the measuring path for separation of curved elongate items from the straight elongate items, under control of a force measuring unit (61) measuring and evaluating the force of each elongate item on the rolling plane. An independent claim for a method for sorting curved elongate items is also included.
