Active ingredient obtained from powdered Medicago sativa seeds

Active agent (I) with antiwrinkle and smoothing properties for combating extrinsic skin aging is derived from powdered alfalfa seeds, especially the galactomannan-rich fraction. Independent claims are also included for: (1) producing (I) by dissolving powdered alfalfa seeds in an aqueous medium in an amount of at least 50 g/l, hydrolyzing the solution simultaneously or sequentially with protease and carbohydrase enzymes, separating the soluble and insoluble fractions, inactivating the enzymes and concentrating the active fraction; (2) cosmetic composition comprising 0.1-20 % (I).
