PURPOSE: To provide an apparatus for stopping strip capable of minimizing a gap between the strips to shorten restoration time during fracture of the strip being proceeded through a plurality of rolls by stopping the strip horizontally proceeded and closely adhering rolls and brake to the strip under the rolls, thereby fixing the strips at a fracture position during fracture of the strip. CONSTITUTION: The apparatus comprises a clamping brake part comprising upper and lower clamps(11,10) having a quartered circular arc, upper and lower cam shafts(11a,10a) fixed to the upper and lower clamps to rotate the upper and lower clamps, bearings(21,17) and lock nuts(22,18) connected to bearing blocks(13) after being connected to the upper and lower cam shafts respectively, bearing covers(23,19) fixed to the bearing blocks to prevent separation of the bearings and the lock nuts and prevent foreign materials from penetrating into the bearings, upper and lower connection brackets(15,14) one side of which is fixed to an end of a right part of the upper and lower cam shafts, and the other side of which is fixed to rod part and head part of an air cylinder(16) respectively, and a direction switching valve connected to the air cylinder to select supply of air into the rod part or the head part; and a photo sensor installed in front of the clamping brake part to have a function of monitoring fracture of the strip(1).
