PURPOSE: A mobile communication terminal having a battery charging control function and a charging method are provided to change a buffer reference current according to a used state of a battery, in order to increase an amount of current charged in the battery, thereby extending a battery usage time. CONSTITUTION: A buffer reference current setup unit(32) sets a buffer reference current by corresponding to a setup signal. A charging unit(34) charges a battery until a charging current reaches the set buffer reference current. A controller(12) consists of a variable charging controller(12a) for varying the buffer reference current of the buffer reference current setup unit(32) according to a battery state.
