PURPOSE: An air bag device is provided to prevent an air bag from directly colliding with passenger's chest or head while the air bag expands and to enhance reliability in safety of the air bag. CONSTITUTION: An air bag device includes a tether(60) installed in an air bag(52) to decide an expanding shape of the air bag. The tether makes the expanding length of the central part of the air bag shorter than the expanding length of the right and left edges of the air bag. The tether is gradually shorter toward the central part of the air bag from the right and left edges of the air bag when the air bag expands.
