METHOD OF FORMING THIN FILM ON GLASS SUBSTRATE AND GLASS SUBSTRATE COATED WITH THIN FILM

A method of uniformly forming a functional thin film on a surface of glass substrate of large size used for building, etc.; and a glass substrate coated with thin film, formed by the method. Use is made of a plate glass of large size produced by the float bath method wherein molten glass is caused to flow on a bath of Sn so as to effect gradual hardening, thereby forming a flat plate of glass. The bottom surface, formed in contact with the Sn bath, of the plate glass is sprayed with a coating liquid containing an alcohol as a solvent and containing 5 to 15 mass% of water to thereby effect coating while controlling the wettability of glass substrate with the coating liquid. Thus, a uniform thin film of metal oxide is formed on the glass substrate.
