Coordinate measuring gauge has an inclined plurality of spheres that are arranged in the center line on at least one straight line relative to the reference axis in the virtual reference plane. The gauge is set on the measuring table of the coordinate measuring machines. One of the coordinate axes is the same at right angles to the reference coordinate axis is set in the virtual reference plane. The center coordinates of each sphere is determined by the coordinate measuring machines. Then, the gauge is inverted and is rotated 180 degrees reinstalled on the measuring table with respect to the reference axis. One of the coordinate axes is the same at right angles to the reference coordinate axis is set in the virtual reference plane. The center coordinates of each sphere is measured in the same manner as described above. Thus, a measurement error of perpendicularity between the linear axis machine coordinate measuring machines and machine axis also can be easily and accurately evaluated.
