Intestinal glucose absorption inhibitor isolated from Punica granatum and its purification method

PURPOSE: Provided are an intestinal glucose absorption inhibitor isolated from Punica granatum and a purification method thereof. The inhibitor inhibits the absorption of glucose which is associated with diabetes. Therefore, it is useful functional foods or drugs for preventing obesity and diabetes. CONSTITUTION: The extract of Punica granatum is obtained by extracting Punica granatum with methanol at room temperature, followed by concentration at 40 deg.C; fractioning the extract with hexane to give hexane fractions; fractioning the remnant with chloroform to give chloroform fractions; and fractioning the remnant with ethylacetate to give ethylacetate fractions; and concentrating the remnant to give methanol fractions.
