Process for controlling the deceleration or braking of a vehicle or commercial vehicle comprises extrapolating the temporary progression of a deceleration or braking caused by sustained braking when the drive rod is closed and whilst the drive rod is separated during gear changing, and activating the brake during separation of the drive rod during automatic insertion of the brake. Preferred Features: The temporary extrapolation is described by a polynomial of the nth order. The braking action is extrapolated by a constant value and this value is acquired directly before separation of the drive rod.
