The vehicle brake system comprises a brake pressure modulation valve arrangement (BMVA) which can be connected to the brake fluid reservoir (2d) via a first switch valve (5) without an independent conveying device. A hydraulic connection is made between the main cylinder (2c) and brake fluid reservoir (2d) via a second switch valve (6). An independent claim is also included for the method of operating a motor vehicle brake system.
