The system has a brake circuit (18a) comprising a wheel brake cylinder (38a) connected to a pressure chamber (10a) of a master brake cylinder (10) so that brake fluid is transferable from the chamber into the brake circuit to increase brake pressure in the wheel brake cylinder. A brake fluid delivery device (72) i.e. multi-piston pump, is hydraulically connected with brake fluid reservoirs (12, 74) and the chamber such that the fluid is pumped from the reservoirs into the chamber by the device. The reservoirs and pump devices (54a, 54b) are arranged at a common shaft (102) of a motor (104). The pump devices are designed as two-piston pumps or single-piston pumps. The multi-piston pump is four-piston pump or a two-piston pump. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a braking system of a vehicle.
