The gas laser has a resonator space defined between 2 reflectors (RE1,RE2) in the longitudinal direction (LR), a gas space within the resonator space filled with a working gas, e.g. argon and an electrode device within the gas space (GR) providing a potential difference between anode and cathode electrodes (AN,KA) spaced from one another in the longitudinal direction. A magnetic device generates a magnetic field in the gas space having a field direction perpendicular to the longitudinal direction between the electrodes.
