The production of a ceramic luminescent material comprises preparing a powder containing components for forming a luminescent material, mixing the powder with an organic binder, forming a green body by pressing the powder, heating the green body to not more than 400[deg]C to burn off the organic binder, further heating the green body to not more than 800[deg]C in a reducing atmosphere to reduce oxidation layers formed on the surface, and sintering the green body.
