The method involves seizing values for physical vehicle parameters, which are suitable for the computation of the total mass, during current driving conditions of the vehicle. An iterative calculation of the total mass drive is made on the basis of seized values of the vehicle parameters. A determination is made for the current travel situation of the vehicle in the form of values for a second vehicle parameter. The seized values are evaluated for the first set of physical vehicle parameters regarding their suitability for the computation of the total mass of the vehicle due to the current driving conditions of the vehicle during the sampling. The evaluation is made for the determined values for the second set of vehicle parameters by Fuzzy logic. A mass weighting factor is generated in accordance with a condition of the result of the evaluation of the determined values for the second vehicle parameters. The mass weighting factor is considered with the iterative computation of the total mass of the vehicle. An independent claim is included for a computer program.
